Hello from Nairobi!

Hi everyone! I’m sorry about the brief update before, but hopefully this will work better 🙂
We got into Nairobi airport late Friday night, and had a bit of a scare when we were waiting for our luggage…and waiting…and waiting… But it turned out that they were just on a different carousel! We knew God was watching over us when we saw all that luggage gathered up: THIRTY SIX BAGS IN ALL!!! We were allowed 2 extra checked bags each (thank you, British Airways!) to bring books, art supplies, medical supplies, and stuffed animals.

We got to our guest house very late, and woke up to go to Beacon of Hope and have a tour. The teachers at Beacon graciously gave up their Saturday to meet with the teachers on our team, and we have made a plan for next Saturday. Gail has prepared a presentation on autism, and we will be helping with organizing their library, teaching some art and craft projects, and a few other things.

Today we went to a church service at the church where the Wathome’s regularly attend. It reminded us of our beloved Blackhawk, with awesome music, a great teaching lesson, and a very welcoming community. The biggest difference was the DANCING!!
We met a few people there who want to come and see our church. Maybe there will be an exchange program someday!

Right now we are at the Wathome’s beautiful home and were given an amazing lunch. Thankfully we are also able to use their wifi 🙂 so lots of us are checking in with loved ones back home.

Tonight we have the last 4 members of our team join us: Eric and Emily, and Tyler and Cali. Eric and Cali had exams to finish up before they could make the trip. Tomorrow we spend the day at Beacon, and tomorrow night we travel four hours to a remote village called Oliotoktok (pronounced “loy-talk-talk”) to hold a medical clinic. Keep the prayers coming!

Kristin
